ENOUGH

Medium: Collage - acrylic paint, paper, pastel, pencil
Size: 12" x 16"
Year: 2024

Enough is the moment you stop asking politely. The moment silence becomes impossible. The moment you realize that staying quiet makes you complicit.

SOLITARY SKYS

Medium: Collage - acrylic paint, paper, pastel, pencil
Size:  11x14
Year: 2024

Visual response to:

Solitary Skies

The floor is crude, cracked, speckled,

19th century concrete.

The walls---colonial white.

The bars---columns of despair.

The air--thick with injustice.

To breathe is laudatory; for windows, ventilation and natural light are nil.

The sky is but a memory; a frozen image of burnt-ora

When making art is not enough, it becomes the record that we tried. That we saw. That we refused defeat.

WILDERNESS

Medium: Collage - acrylic paint, paper, pastel, pencil
Size:  11x14
Year: 2024

Visual response to:

Wilderness

This wilderness

A forest of new dimensions

Asphalt for grass, gun towers for trees

A zoo of rats, roaches,

And the shadows of men.

Nature made concrete

Permanently encased

In a matrix, a maze

Phantoms without names

Exhibits of no escape.

Numerical skeletons

Both waste and fertilizer

STRANGE FRUIT

Size: 36" x 48"

Visual response to:

Strange Fruit (excerpt)

After Billie Holiday

Human ornaments.

The oak trees still stand

The ground, where dark matter

Once kissed the daisies

Has become a precinct

Hooded men of the night

Still meet there and patrol.

Lexington, KY. Thousands of enslaved people—sold. Tourism alongside a defaced historical marker—written over, painted red. Barren, desolate lands—untilled and dead. The aftermath.

UNDER PRESSURE OUT OF TIME: HEALING BASQUIAT

I studied Basquiat not to learn how to paint like him, but to understand what it cost him to create under the pressures he faced—racism, commodification, the art world's refusal to truly hear him. From a watercolor and a VANS box collage (a nod to street art and accessibility), I created two healing dolls as part of my ongoing practice of making replicas that witness and care for artists the system failed.
